arstechnica.com/tech-policy/20…It's official. Come this Thursday, the anti-consumer run FCC will unveil their plans to fully destroy Net Neutrality. Simply put, it'll go something like this: "We, the Big cable companies are the masters of the internet now. We have final say in what you can see, how much you pay, and how fast your net is. You can't override us, and you can't stop us. Suck it."
Once this becomes officially public we'll have 60 days before this takes effect, and the web becomes nothing more than a way for corrupt cooperations to bleed us dry without a care in the world, But even though it's looks bad, there are several glimmers of hope.
First, The senate is close to having enough votes to pass a CRA that could throw a wrench (albeit temporarily) in those plans. All they need is 1 more senator to side with them and they can get it through. Even though the odds are extremely slim that it passes the house, it'll show who's on the right side of this fight, and it'll force the GOP to come out and show whose side they're on. Regardless if this fails, call your senators and housereps and tell them to support this CRA and thank those who are fighting to save Net Neutrality and tell those who oppose it that you won't forget it, and you'll vote them out of office in November.
Second, even if Congress fails, it's not the only way to win thisfight. 22 attorney generals are planning on filing a multi-state lawsuit with the intent of overturning Pai's decision, and Pai has nothing but a flimsy house of cards style defense, whereas the AGs have tanks of info and a tsunami of public opinion on their side.
boingboing.net/2017/11/26/rule… Pai didn't do his homework, and as such, this power play of pure greed could backfire immensely. Plus, if the case goes to D.C. Circuit Court which was responsible for the historic 2015 ruling, the odds will greatly increase that the new ruling will be delayed or completely nixed and the old ruling stays where it is, plus states are passing their own Net neutraility laws, and they're expecting a fight. This is where the fight will likely be won.
gizmodo.com/net-neutrality-get… Third, As if the looming court battles weren't enough, Pai is also being investigated for misusing his power to help Sinclair Broadcasting Company out by relaxing/revoking rules that would limit how much of a company they own.
gizmodo.com/ajit-pai-is-report…If he's found guilty of that, not only would it throw every decision he's made so far into question, if not legal jeopardy, he could be ousted from the FCC and possibly jailed.
Finally, In an ironic twist, if these new rules do go into effect, all the Junk news sites like Breitbart, InfoWars, Fox, etc. could find themselves in the slow lane. Comcast, Time Warner, Amazon, Verizon, all the news sites under their ownership would be completely unaffected, but the same won't not be said for the aforementioned sites. It's unlikely that Brainfart of InfoFail have the cash to be in the fast lanes, and with 21st Century Fox selling everything but it's news networks to Disney, they'll practically be at a standstill, Maybe that would be enough to convince the Orange Buffoon to support overturning Pai's plan.
The real fight is about to begin, so let's not waste a moment of this opprotunity! Call your senators, call you house reps, spread the word however you can. Heck, call and tell your providers you'll cancel their services if you have to. The internet is not a luxury anymore, it is a common utility that everyone has/needs, and we are not going back to those days. We are not letting Net Neutrality die, NOT NOW, NOT TODAY, NOT EVER!!!!!!
